2. What kind of router do you recommend?
We recommend Linksys router as it is stable, the menu is easy to program, they have an excellent online telephone support and they offer a 3 years warranty on their products. The Linksys router you see above is a typical router you will use for a small office or home setup and they are readily available. Note that Linksys upgrade their models very often which means you may not be able to buy this same model. But no worries. Just ask the sales person for a similar Linksys model and he will offer you the latest Linksys model.
3. How to install your Linksys router?
Once you have physically plugged in the router, you can connect the DVR to the router by plugging one end of the network cable into one of the router port. Plug the other end of the cable into the DVR Ethernet port.
4. How to setup the AVC 760 for remote viewing?
The default address of the AVC 760 is 192.168.1.10 and the default address of the Linksys router is 192.168.1.1. If you are not sure what is the address of your router, you can find out its address by going to the START, under the RUN, type "cd". On the command prompt, type "ipconfig /all". The router address is found under gateway address.
5. How to port forward DVR to the router?
Port forwarding is necessary to enable remote viewing. From experience, Starhub tends to restrict video streaming from port 80. Hence, if your broadband is from starhub, please change the port number. You can use 8080, 3000 whatever you prefer. Just make sure that when you type the address to view, you must add the port number to the back of the address. For example, http://myhome.dvrdns.org:3000
6. What is the difference between Static or Dynamic?
While a static IP is better in the sense that it does not change, it is also more expensive. For most applications, whether at home or in the office, the broadband plans tend to be dynamic. To enable remote viewing, it is important to have a method where the IP address is constantly updated. Some DVR has a built-in DDNS updating software. In case yours don't, d not worry. The Linksys router comes with this DDNS feature and can be programmed to update the address.
