Why Akuvox Is Securevision's Primary Intercom Recommendation
Akuvox started as a SIP VoIP communications company. That origin is the reason their intercom systems perform differently from competitors who started as hardware security companies and added IP communication later. SIP is the protocol that modern IP phone systems run on: fast, reliable, low-latency. An Akuvox door station calls a resident's phone the same way an IP office phone calls an extension: the connection is near-instant, the video is clear, and the door release is immediate. When a delivery driver presses the door station, the resident's smartphone rings and shows the video within a second. That speed matters: a slow intercom system is one where residents stop answering because the experience is frustrating.
Beyond performance, Akuvox's SmartPlus cloud platform changes how intercom systems are administered. Every user is managed by email address. When a tenant moves out, the managing agent removes their email: the app stops working immediately. The new tenant's email goes in, they receive an activation link, download the SmartPlus app, and their intercom is live. No chasing the departing tenant to uninstall the app. No issuing physical cards or fobs. No on-site software to update. Everything runs on the cloud. For Singapore condominiums and managed buildings where resident turnover is ongoing, this administration model is a significant practical advantage over traditional intercom systems.
Securevision Scope
Securevision installs Akuvox intercom systems across all property types: condominiums, landed homes, commercial offices, and managed living properties. We handle full system design, hardware supply, installation, SmartPlus cloud configuration, lift integration, and ongoing support. All Akuvox installations are cloud-managed: Securevision can diagnose and in many cases resolve faults remotely without a site visit.
A Different Configuration for Every Property Type
The right Akuvox configuration depends on the property: the number of units, the entry points, whether lift integration is needed, and the level of visitor management required.
Landed Homes: Gate Station, Indoor Monitor, Smartphone
The standard Securevision configuration for a Singapore landed home: an Akuvox door station at the gate or front door, an indoor monitor inside the house, and the SmartPlus app on the homeowner's and family members' phones.
The door station handles visitor calls, card access, and: on models with a keypad: PIN entry for residents who step out without their phone. The R20A is the compact standard unit, the R20K adds a keypad for PIN entry, and the newer R25 is a slimmer, more elegant unit that suits modern landed home architecture better than the earlier range. The X912 and A5S (with built-in face recognition) are specified for homes where contactless entry is a priority. The S562 indoor monitor sits inside the house: a 7-inch touchscreen that shows the visitor on video and allows door release with one tap. Family members on the SmartPlus app can see and release the door from anywhere: from inside another room, from the office, or from overseas.
Offices: Single Door and Multi-Department
For a single-door office, the setup mirrors a landed home: one door station at the entrance, a C313 indoor monitor at reception or the manager's desk, and the SmartPlus app for remote door release when no one is at the front desk. Staff enter by card or PIN; visitors press the door station and are answered from the app.
For offices with multiple departments: where a visitor arriving at reception needs to reach a specific team: the S532 or S535 door station supports a directory of extensions. A visitor selects the department they need (HR, Finance, Operations), presses the corresponding number, and the call rings on the SmartPlus app of every member of that team. The first person to answer handles the visitor and releases the door. Each department has its own indoor monitor and its own group in the app. This configuration handles multi-tenant or multi-department commercial premises without the cost of a full enterprise intercom system.
Condominiums: Full Estate Management on the Cloud
Condominium deployments are the most comprehensive Akuvox installations. The configuration depends on the estate size: from 16-unit walk-up apartments to 400-unit developments: but the architecture is consistent: door stations at every controlled entry point (main gate, side gate, lift lobby, guardhouse), indoor monitors at each unit, and SmartPlus app for all residents and the managing agent.
For lobbies and lift access points, Securevision typically specifies the R28 (card and PIN with visitor management) or the X915 / S535 where QR code visitor access and face recognition are required. The X915 and S535 are Akuvox's higher-specification lobby stations: elegant, Android-based, with a full-colour display and a camera that produces clear video even in low-light lobby conditions. For larger condominiums, the A49 guard station sits at the guardhouse: a dedicated management unit that allows the guard to communicate with any unit, manage visitor entries, and monitor door and gate status across the estate from a single screen.
Retrofitting Older Condominiums: The 2-Wire Solution
Many older Singapore condominiums already have intercom cabling run to every unit: heavier-gauge 22–28AWG wire installed during original construction. This cable is too thick to terminate into standard RJ45 connectors, so it cannot be used as Cat6 Ethernet. However, it is excellent cable: thick, durable, running long distances reliably. There is no need to replace it.
Akuvox's 2-wire retrofit system is built for exactly this scenario. The C313W-2 indoor monitor connects over the existing 2-wire cable at each unit: no new cable runs into the unit. At the riser on each floor, an NS-2 2-wire switch aggregates up to 6 unit cable runs per port, converting the 2-wire signal to standard IP for connection to the building's network. The door station (new VCP) at the lobby or gate runs on standard Cat6, but everything from the riser to each unit reuses the existing cable infrastructure.
The result: a full Akuvox IP intercom upgrade: SmartPlus cloud management, smartphone app, HD video, visitor calling: without opening walls, without running new cable to every unit, and without the cost and disruption of a full recabling project. For condominium MCSTs evaluating whether to upgrade an ageing intercom system, this approach is typically the most practical and cost-effective path.
Lift Integration: Floor-Level Access for Visitors
For condominiums with lift access control, the Akuvox system integrates with the lift controller. When a visitor calls a unit from the lobby door station, the resident can release both the lobby door and the lift to their floor simultaneously from the SmartPlus app: the visitor enters the lobby and can travel only to the resident's floor, without access to any other floor in the building.
For delivery personnel, the resident has a second option: release the lobby door only, so the delivery can be left in the common lobby without the visitor reaching the unit floor at all. This two-level release capability: lobby only, or lobby plus lift to a specific floor: is one of the most practically useful features in a Singapore condominium context, where security-conscious residents want to manage visitor access without physically opening their unit door.
Cloud Administration That Changes How an Intercom System Is Managed
SmartPlus is Akuvox's cloud management platform: the backend that ties every door station, indoor monitor, and mobile app together. For a Singapore condominium or managed property, SmartPlus changes the administration model significantly.
Email-Based User Management
Every SmartPlus account is tied to an email address. The managing agent controls the estate's SmartPlus account: adding and removing residents by email. When a tenant vacates, their email is removed from the system. The app stops working on their phone immediately. The new tenant's email is added, they receive an activation link, download the app, and they are live: without any on-site work. Each household has a master user who manages their own family members independently, removing the administrative burden from the managing agent for day-to-day household changes.
SmartPlus App: Four Users Per Unit, Expandable
Each unit licence includes four SmartPlus app users as standard: sufficient for a typical household. Additional users can be added on a subscription basis if needed. The app handles incoming visitor calls with live video, door and gate release, viewing the door station camera at any time, and receiving alerts when the door station is activated. For residents, the experience is straightforward: a call comes in, they see who it is, they tap to answer and release the door. No different from answering a phone call.
Remote HQ Monitoring: After-Hours Guard Replacement
One of SmartPlus's most operationally significant capabilities for Singapore condominiums is remote HQ monitoring. When a condominium operates without a physical guard presence: late at night, on public holidays, or as part of a cost-reduction strategy: the guard function can be routed to a remote security operations centre. Any visitor pressing the door station connects to a remote operator who verifies the visitor, records their particulars, and releases the gate or door as appropriate. The condominium maintains a managed entry point without the cost of 24-hour on-site guarding.
SECURE™ Integration
Akuvox door stations integrate with Ruijie/Reyee and Omada managed network switches: giving Securevision remote visibility of switch and device status alongside the intercom system. If a door station goes offline, the network switch dashboard shows whether the issue is the device or the network port, allowing remote diagnosis before dispatching an engineer. For condominiums with Hikvision CCTV, door station activation events can trigger camera recordings at nearby cameras, creating a visitor entry log with visual evidence.
