FAAC Auto Gate Motors Singapore

FAAC is an Italian manufacturer and the global benchmark for gate automation. Securevision installs FAAC sliding gate motors and swing gate arms for Singapore landed homes, condominiums, commercial buildings, and industrial facilities: from a 600kg residential sliding gate to a 2,200kg industrial gantry.

About FAAC

Italian Gate Automation: Built for Heavy Duty, Long Service Life

FAAC was founded in Bologna, Italy in 1965 and has grown into one of the world's largest manufacturers of gate and barrier automation systems. Their products are specified globally wherever reliability and longevity are the primary criteria: from residential landed homes to military facilities, logistics hubs, and infrastructure perimeters. All FAAC motors are manufactured in Italy, oil-bath lubricated for continuous mechanical protection, and designed to operate for years in demanding outdoor conditions.

In Singapore, FAAC is Securevision's primary specification for sliding gate motors and swing gate arms where the gate is heavy, the usage is intensive, or the installation is for a commercial or industrial property. FAAC's car park barrier range is also available but is priced at a significant premium over Malaysian alternatives: for most Singapore condominium barrier applications, MAG delivers adequate performance at a more competitive cost. Where the gate is large, the traffic is heavy, or the longevity requirement is high, FAAC is the specification.

Securevision Scope

Securevision installs FAAC 746, 844, and 844 3-phase sliding gate motors, FAAC 415 swing gate arms, and FAAC car park barriers. We select the right FAAC model based on gate weight, gate width, usage frequency, and whether the installation is single-phase or three-phase. Over-specifying is as important to avoid as under-specifying: a motor with too much torque can stress gate hinges and hardware.

How We Choose

Selecting the Right FAAC Motor: Gate Weight and Gate Width

Motor selection depends on two primary factors: the weight of the gate leaf and the width of each leaf. Getting this right matters: too little torque and the motor struggles; too much torque and the gate lurches, stressing hinges and hardware.

โš–๏ธ

Sliding Gate Motor Selection: Weight Is the Key Variable

Sliding gates move on a track by means of a gear rack welded to the gate: a toothed steel strip that the motor's pinion gear runs along. The motor is fixed to the ground inside the gate line; the gate rolls past it. Motor selection is primarily about gate weight.

For most Singapore landed home sliding gates, the FAAC 746 at 600kg is sufficient. Even if the gate weighs under 400kg, the 746 is worth specifying because gate tracks wear over time: a clean track that rolls smoothly today may require more torque in five years as the track wears or debris accumulates. For gates approaching or exceeding 600kg, or for commercial and industrial gates, Securevision moves up to the FAAC 844 (single-phase, up to 1,800kg) or the FAAC 844 3-phase (up to 2,200kg). The 3-phase version requires a 3-phase power supply: specified for industrial facilities and large commercial gates where single-phase is insufficient.

Swing Gate Motor Selection: Width Determines Arm vs Recess

Swing gates are categorised by the width of each leaf. For gates where each leaf is under approximately 1.5โ€“2 metres wide, a concealed recess motor mounted in the pillar or ground is the standard approach: it is aesthetically clean and sufficient for the load. For leaves wider than 2 metres, a surface-mounted arm motor is required: the arm provides the leverage needed to swing a wider, heavier leaf reliably.

Securevision specifies the FAAC 415 as the standard swing arm for Singapore commercial, condominium, and industrial properties. The 415 is an electromechanical linear arm: motor-driven, aluminium body, built-in limit switches, key-operated manual release for power failure. It handles gate leaves up to 4m wide. A properly installed FAAC 415 on a well-hung gate can run reliably for five or more years under regular use. The hydraulic FAAC 400 is available for the heaviest swing gate applications where even greater torque and locking force are required.

Why We Err on the Side of Higher Capacity

When a gate weight is close to the rated limit of a motor: say, 580kg for a 600kg-rated FAAC 746: Securevision typically recommends stepping up to the next model. The reason is simple: gate tracks accumulate debris and wear over time. A gate that rolls cleanly on day one may require noticeably more force in year three. Specifying a motor at its absolute limit leaves no headroom for this degradation. The cost difference between the 746 and the 844 is modest compared to the cost of a premature motor replacement or the disruption of a stalled gate at a condominium entrance during peak hours.
