CCTV Camera Coverage Calculator

Find out how many cameras your site needs: and see exactly what quality of coverage you get at every distance. Green zones identify individuals, amber zones recognise people, blue zones detect movement.

1 · Your scene

Select the type of space you want to cover.

2 · Required image quality

This determines how many cameras are needed and which zones appear in each camera's coverage.

How to read this diagram: Each camera's FOV is divided into three coloured zones. The green zone closest to the camera provides face identification quality. The amber zone allows person recognition. The blue outer zone detects that someone is present. Camera count is based on your chosen quality level covering the full scene.

This is a planning estimate. Complex sites, multiple levels, and mixed zones need a proper site survey.

Basis for zone distances. Zone boundaries use the DORI (Detection, Observation, Recognition, Identification) pixel density standard: detection ≥25 px/m, recognition ≥125 px/m, identification ≥250 px/m. Distances are calculated from the camera’s horizontal resolution and lens field of view. Camera specifications: monitoring (2MP, 4mm, 84° HFOV), recognition (4MP, 4mm, 84° HFOV), identification (4MP, 6mm, 55° HFOV). Actual coverage varies with scene lighting, camera mounting height, and manufacturer firmware. For a certified site assessment, contact Securevision.
