Project Snapshot

The Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS) operates a specialised learning centre on Level 5 of Causeway Point, a high-traffic shopping mall in Woodlands. Securing an educational facility within a commercial retail environment presents unique challenges, requiring a system that prevents unauthorised entry and student wandering while maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for families and students with special needs.

The Challenge

Educational Safety in a Retail Heartland

Operating a learning centre inside a major shopping mall like Causeway Point introduces significant external security risks. The constant flow of mall visitors past the centre's entrance means that unauthorised access must be prevented through hardware, not just reception monitoring.

For DAS, student safety is the non-negotiable priority. Children with special needs may be more prone to confusion or wandering, making it critical that all exit points are securely managed and all learning zones are under constant, high-definition observation by the staff.

The design constraint was to implement these strict safety measures without creating a "fortress" feel. The security hardware had to be discreet and integrated seamlessly into the centre's fit-out to avoid causing anxiety for the students.

Decision Point

Biometric Entry for Absolute Perimeter Integrity

The primary decision point for the Woodlands centre was how to manage staff and visitor entry from the mall concourse. While card access is common, cards are easily misplaced or borrowed in a busy mall environment, compromising the centre's perimeter.

Securevision recommended a full biometric entry strategy using Suprema terminals. This ensures that only verified staff members can release the main entry locks, providing a non-repudiable audit trail of every person entering the learning environment.

This decision provides DAS with the highest level of entry security, ensuring that students remain in a protected zone at all times during their learning sessions.

Our Approach

Invisible Security, Visible Safety

Our engineering team focused on a "quiet guardian" design that protects the students without intruding on the therapeutic learning process.

🏫

Learning Zone Visibility

Placed 14 discreet cameras to provide 100% coverage of all classrooms and corridors, supporting teacher supervision.

🔐

Biometric Hardening

Installed Suprema readers at the main entry and staff admin zones to create a secure, verifiable perimeter.

🖥️

Centralised Monitoring

Provided a dedicated monitor at the reception desk for real-time visual awareness of all internal and mall-side zones.

🛡️

Discreet Fit-Out

Coordinated with the interior designer to ensure all cameras and readers were flush-mounted and cables were fully concealed.

By prioritising student dignity and staff support, we delivered a system that enhances the educational mission of DAS in Woodlands.

The Solution

A Safety-First Learning Environment

The final system provides DAS with total visibility and control over their Causeway Point facility.
